Natural News founder Mike Adams challenged alternative media platforms Truth Social and Rumble to choose principle over profit when Big Tech companies impose censorship on their users and content.
A Google spokesperson said the company hasn’t yet approved Truth Social’s android app for distribution via its play store because of insufficient content moderation. (Related: Leftists demand big tech preemptively censor Trump’s Truth Social.)
That was in response to Trump Media and Technology Group’s Truth Social CEO Devin Nunes statement last week that the decision about when the app would be available on Android “is up to Google.”
TechCrunch.com warned that this could trigger a re-review of the site’s iOS app at some point, as policies of both Apple and Google are largely aligned in terms of how apps with user-generated content must moderate their content.
Adams said during a recent “Health Ranger Report” podcast that President Donald Trump’s free-speech portal has to make a choice between principle and profit. “Principle means you’re going to let people have freedom of speech and tell Google to go pound sand, even if it means not having the app. That’s principle,” he said.
The Health Ranger added that it won’t be long until Apple bans the app on their store as well.
“You’ve got to do more censorship to be approved by Google. And no doubt, the same kind of situation is going to exist with Apple Play Store. Now, Rumble as I understand already has an app with Google and Apple. This brings up the question, are they engaging in enough censorship to please Google and Apple?” Adams said.
Rumble is an alt-tech platform that hosts, distributes and monetizes professional, social and viral videos.
His challenge to the two tech companies whether to protect free speech or prioritize profits and censor users in order to appease Google and get their app approved is yet to be seen.
Adams pointed out that his sites do not have an app, though his team can easily build them. The Natural News app, on the other hand, has been banned by Apple because he was told the site has too many stories that are critical of Satanism and abortion.
“You’ve got to remove all your stories on Satanism and abortion so Apple will let you have an app. In other words, Apple is defending Satan and abortion, and they go hand in hand,” he said, adding that the same is true with Google.
Adams also pointed out elsewhere in his podcast that revenue will most likely be the priority when companies such as Rumble and Truth Social involve investors in decision-making.
“Because I suspect, although I will withhold full judgment until we see what they do, I suspect they’re going to choose profits because they have investors,” he said. “So they have all this pressure to make money for people in that space. You’ve got to answer to the investors, you’ve got to make them happy.”
Adams cited his company and platforms where he did not have to deal with investors.
“If you’re a private company, you don’t have to satisfy the interests of the investors. You don’t have to have a return on investment,” he said.
The podcaster and multi-awarded journalist stressed that “it’s easier to stick to principles and just say, we’re gonna support freedom of speech” and not compromise their values just to appease Google and Apple.
“My soul and the souls of our users are far more important than appeasing evil. Why would I want to appease satanic tech companies like Google and Apple?”
He also disclosed that a group of wealthy investors, who are conservatives too, reached out to him via video call to signify their interest in investing in his platforms to grow them. He declined.
Adams told them straight out that the problem is not a lack of funding and that what is needed is to have America back. “We can’t be bought and infiltrated because we’re not going to have investors. I need freedom, liberty and humanity,” he added.
He also warned that if Rumble and Truth Social bow down to Google and Apple, he’s going to publicly criticize them because they have a choice.
